Evansville, Indiana – Evana Automation Specialists, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently delivered a lean, 21-step assembly and test system to American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. (AAM).

Evana introduced a Lean Manufacturing process to AAM, which helped reduce complexity and improve uptime, as well as reduce the number of operators that were originally called for in AAM's automated concept. As a result, AAM selected Evana's Lean Manufacturing approach, which integrated automatic and semi-automatic processes to assemble and test electronic actuator assemblies for an automobile transmission.

The Evana Automation team worked closely with AAM to make sure all objectives and requirements were met," said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. "The end result is another highly effective Evana system that will provide a solid platform for the assembly and testing of critical transmission control components.

Evana utilizes diverse technologies to specialize in motion control, robotics integration and system architecture by linking production equipment, material handling systems, data collection, networking, as well as computer software and hardware into flexible, unified technology. Test equipment can be integrated into assembly systems, stand alone systems for automatic testing, or manual test benches. Overall, Evana's custom assembly and test solutions improve efficiency for manufacturers all over the world in industries like automotive, aerospace, defense, healthcare and alternative energy.

AAM is a world leader in the manufacture, engineering, design and validation of driveline and drivetrain systems and related components and modules, chassis systems and metal-formed products for trucks, sport utility vehicles, passenger cars and crossover utility vehicles. In addition to locations in the United States (Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania), AAM also has offices or facilities in Brazil, China, Germany, India, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, Thailand and the United Kingdom. Evana Automation ships custom PCB depaneling cell to Tier 1 automotive supplier

April 30, 2013

Evansville, Indiana – Evana Automation Specialists, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI)and leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently shipped a custom printed circuit board (PCB) depaneling cell to a leading Tier 1 automotive supplier.

The completely automatic cell loads PCB panels via standard magazines and depanel the circuits using servo router heads. The individual boards are then loaded into customer supplied trays, which are automatically stacked.

“This respected Tier 1 automotive customer has called on Evana in the past,” said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. “Our efficient solutions and knowledgeable staff are always key factors to winning their business.”

Evana Automation improves efficiency and quality control for Tier 1 automotive supplier with lean, automated workstations

March 18, 2013

Evansville, Indiana – Evana Automation Specialists, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently delivered two lean workstations that assemble, grease, mark and test input pinion assemblies for a Tier 1 automotive supplier of commercial steering components.

The first station assembles an input pinion to a T-bar, which involves pressing a bushing into the pinion, installing an O-ring, greasing the O-ring and assembling the pinion into the T-bar. The second station uses a deflection test to verify that the bushing is present, pin stamp information to the assembly and debur a hole in the assembly. Both stations offer complete traceability of the parts, including verification that the correct tooling and components are being utilized throughout the process.

“Evana was delighted to improve efficiency and implement quality control measurements for this repeat customer,” said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. “Our solutions help manufacturers all over the world, in a wide range of industries, achieve the highest levels of efficiency for their production projects.”

Evana Automation to supply custom assembly cells to Tier 1 automotive supplier to simplify the production of automobile seat rail link arms

February 19, 2013

Evansville, Indiana – Evana Automation Specialists, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI) and leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently received a contract from a Tier 1 automotive supplier to provide two custom, semi-automated assembly cells that will simplify the production of automobile seat rail link arms.

The first automated assembly cell is a multi-station dial that will feed, press and caulk a bushing, as well as feed and press a pin into a link arm. The second automated assembly cell is a multi-station dual dial system that will feed, press and caulk a bushing, as well as pick and press a pin into the link arm and weld it. For the welding process, Evana is integrating a customer-supplied Panasonic robot.

Both assembly cells, which are scheduled for an April delivery, include poke-yokes to verify part presence, press depths, press forces, weld presence and weld bead profile.

“Evana is always happy to win new business from repeat customers,” said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. “These new custom assembly cells will feed product to an automated rail assembly line that was also built by Evana.”

Evana utilizes diverse technologies to specialize in motion control, robotics integration and system architecture by linking production equipment, material handling systems, data collection, networking, as well as computer software and hardware into flexible, unified technology. Evana Automation Specialists delivers
automated kitting line to major automotive manufacturer

November 7, 2011

Evansville, Indiana – Evana Automation Specialists, a leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently delivered an automated kitting line to a major automotive manufacturer, containing seven workstations and six press stations. The kitting line, which is a follow-up order to a shipment of kitting lines purchased last year by the auto company, is used to organize transmission components into kit boxes for installation into three different transmission models.

The process begins when a production worker pushes a component-feed rack, which is filled with bins of transmission components, up to the back of a workstation and transfers the bins onto it. From there, the workstation operator takes components from the bins and places them into the appropriate location in the kit box. Once the operator's task is completed, the kit box is automatically transferred to the next workstation, where the next step of the kitting process is carried out. When the kit box is completely populated with transmission components, it is shipped to the assembly plant for assembly into the appropriate transmission model.

Each workstation is equipped with embedded sensors that track operator movements. Selected workstations include sensors that provide a beam into the kit box, directing the operator where a particular component goes. Additionally, for quality control purposes, all workstations are equipped with one or more cameras to check that the right component is put into the right place inside the kit box.

"Evana Automation is proud to continue its strong working relationship with this major automotive manufacturer," said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. "The automated kitting lines will help the customer manage component inventory and keep costs down, while also serving as an effective quality control measure and production tool."
